In October 2022 the Greensboro venue known as the Blind Tiger reopened under a new owner and a new name, Hangar 1819, after what the station called several troubled months for the former tenants. [WFMY News 2] The station reports the events behind the change in these terms. [WFMY News 2] An ABC Commission investigation pulled the Blind Tiger's liquor licence, and the commission also charged the former manager and owner over hiring unlicensed armed security. The article names neither. [WFMY News 2] Kristofer Sunico is the new owner. The name refers to a lyric in a Megadeth song and plays on the address, 1819 Spring Garden Street. He owns the promotions company Crank It Loud, which had booked shows at the Blind Tiger before, and the previous owners approached him a couple of months before the reopening. [WFMY News 2] Sunico said he was wary of buying a venue with those recent issues but wanted to keep it from closing for good. [WFMY News 2] The main operational change is that Hangar 1819 would be a live music venue only, open on show days, where the Blind Tiger had also run as a nightclub. The ABC Commission granted a new permit, and Sunico said he would use a third-party security company sourced through the Greensboro Coliseum. The first show was set for 15 November 2022.
