The register takes its Miss Gay America years from the system's Forever Miss Gay Americas roll, which styles each titleholder by the year of the title she holds. [Miss Gay America] The system's own Pageant History page numbers the same titleholders one year earlier, consistently and across the whole list: Linda Carrero 1999 where the Forever roll says 2000, Luscious 2007 against 2008, Kirby Kolby 2012 against 2013, Blair Williams 2015 against 2016. It is not a slip in one entry but two conventions — the year the pageant was held against the year of the title it awarded. The Carolinas placements come from the community archive, an independent source, and land on the same editions: Kelly Rae Shelton first alternate at Miss Gay America 2016 and 2017 and second alternate in 2018, three consecutive years, against Blair Williams, Asia O'Hara and Suzy Wong as the Forever roll numbers them.
